Join our team!!! The Ouachita Parish Public Library is located in the beautiful twin cities of Monroe/West Monroe in northeast Louisiana. The library system consists of 6 branches plus a bookmobile, with a 7th branch in the planning stages. Ouachita Parish Public Library serves a population of 146,985 and is proud to be one of the top libraries in the state.

The library offers liberal benefits, including an excellent retirement system, vacations, sick leave and health insurance. Employees may advance to higher positions according to their abilities, qualifications, education, and special interests based upon the needs of the library. After offered employment at the Ouachita Parish Public Library, the applicant agrees to be tested and to successfully pass a drug screening in order to be added to the payroll. The screening will be done by an independent laboratory with the cost to be covered by the library. Ouachita Parish Public Library is an equal opportunity employer.

Present library employees are given three days priority in applying for the vacant position before outside applicants will be considered. Library employees may still apply after the designated deadline but priority will not be given.

$7.2862 per hour , Approx. 12 – 20 hours per week  

Answers to:  Branch Manager

Nature of work:
                Works under direct supervision of department head
 
               Performs a variety of manual duties in several departments of the library

Essential duties and Responsibilities:
                Re-shelves materials
                Read and straightening of shelves
                Occasional circulation duties
                Organizing materials
                Assist with the opening and closing of the branch
                Archiving/filing materials
                Answers patrons directional questions
                Assists with keeping the building and grounds clean inside and out
                Other duties as requested

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
                Knowledge of library identification system, books and periodicals
                Knowledge of library operations and procedures
                Ability to effectively work with co-workers and the public
                Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Physical Requirements:
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring stooping, climbing or walking.  Recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 25 lbs. and may require occasional lifting of objects weighing more than 25 lbs..
                Common  abilities such as mobility and dexterity.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
                Must be at least sixteen years old and completed the tenth grade of high school

Circulation – Assistant I - Ouachita Valley Branch
Full Time – 40 hours per week   $8.1402 per hour
Position available 8/2/10

Answers to:
                Branch Manager

Nature of Work:
                Responsible for providing “customer service” to the public

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
                Checking in /out materials
                Registering patrons
                Collecting fines and other library related fees
                Place holds on materials for patrons
                Answer telephones
                Identify and send materials to Technical Services for cleaning and repair
                Other duties as requested

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
                Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
                Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public
                “Frontline” public service skills
Basic computer skills, using Windows environment

Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires sitting, standing and stooping, walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require lifting objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally.
Common abilities such as mobility and dexterity

Minimum Required Qualifications:
                High school diploma or equivalent
