Ouachita Parish Public Library is excited to offer patrons a great way to check out Louisiana’s unmatched outdoor experiences.
Library patrons can check out a day pass for free admission to any Louisiana state park or historic site through Check Out Louisiana State Parks. The program is a partnership among Ouachita Parish Public Library, the State Library of Louisiana, Louisiana State Parks, and Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. Launched in October 2024 with 19 original participating library systems, Check Out Louisiana State Parks now includes all 68 library systems in the state.
“In Louisiana, your library card unlocks more than just the outstanding resources of your local library,” said State Librarian Meg Placke. “Through programs like Check Out Louisiana, it becomes a passport that connects you with our state’s storied history, culture, recreation, and outdoor life. We’re very happy to extend the state parks offering to all our public library systems and encourage cardholders to take advantage of this valuable benefit.”
When patrons check out a park pass, they can also borrow a Geaux Explore backpack. Each backpack contains:
- Set of binoculars
- Compass
- Magnifying glass
- Leave No Trace outdoor ethics cards
- Guide to Louisiana parks and wildlife
State parks or historic sites will keep the pass upon entry. Patrons must return the backpack and its materials to their library within a two-week period.
